Looking for a little more challenge with photo crafts? If so, this is the badge program for you.
Steps
1. Decoupage.
Wooden boxes, wooden blocks, paper mache shapes and more can use photos and other pieces of paper for decoration. Decoupage is gluing the item(s) down and then applying layers of decoupage medium on top to protect the items. Look at examples of these types of photo crafts. Which might you like to try? Decide and do it!
2. Inside.
Putting an image inside a box can be much more than a single, focal image. Shadow boxes and shrines are two ways to put a photo in a box. In both cases, other items can be added to create a memory box. Examine ways others have done this.
3. Scrapbook.
Scrapbooking is a craft that features photos. I’ve seen great layouts with one, two or more photos. You can create your scrapbook physically or digitally. If you are scrapbooking, also think about one-off pages that you might frame and hang on a wall instead of putting into a book with a lot more pages. Create your own scrapbook or a page featuring your photos.
4. Jewelry.
You can incorporate photos in jewelry with charms, pendants and pins. You can purchase small charms to put photos in and pour resin over the top to seal in the photo. You can attach a photo to a piece of glass and add a finding so it can be added to a necklace. There are many ways to personalize your jewelry with photos. Look at items online and find one or two to try.
5. Calendar.
You may think a calendar should be on the easier badge program, but if you’re doing a calendar, chances are you’re doing 12 months which means 12 photos and all the work with it. You can design a simple template so that a 4” x 6” photo can just be placed on top of a sheet or you might want to try something more elaborate. Explore what others have done with photo calendars.
6. Postcards.
Greeting and recipe cards are not the only ways to make cards into photo crafts. Postcards are a little more difficult. I’ve seen wooden ones with photos decoupaged on them or photos attached to cardstock blank templates with a thin plastic sleeve over it so it’s not damaged in the mail. The bag allows postage to be affixed or labels that say “hand stamp only” to add even more protection to your postcards. Look at making your own photo postcards.
7. Postage.
While you can have your own postage made with photos, you can also make faux postage. Your “fake stamps” can be put on items that you send your kids while playing post office or as part of a scrapbook page. If you look worldwide, stamps come in many shapes and sizes. Look at designing your own postage that starts with a photo.
NOTE: Be sure to keep your originals separate so you can make copies again in the future.
8. Puzzles.
You can make puzzles from your photos. Game pieces featuring the players might make a game more interesting. Explore ways to incorporate photos in your gaming life.
9. Acetate.
Instead of printing photos on paper, printing them on acetate opens up additional photo craft opportunities. You want light to go through the acetate to see the photo. Old-style lanterns with an electric tea light inside is one way of doing this. You can also use jars, candle holders and other clear items with acetate inside. Adding ribbons, raffia and other elements can help “dress it up.” Explore ways to use acetate photos in crafts.
10. Transfers.
Images can be transferred to fabric, wood, paper, glass, etc. You might want it to be the single, focal image. You also might choose to have it be part of a collage. Explore ways to transfer images. Try one or two. You may choose to do any of the projects in Photo Crafts II or III with transferred images instead of the photo prints.
11. Explore.
Continue to explore and experiment with putting your photos into the crafts you make. Be sure to keep notes on what works (and didn’t) so you can refer back to this information later or share it with others.
