A vision board is a tool for visualizing and focusing on your goals and dreams. This can be through images, words or things that mean something to you. While normally a collage, there are many ways to create a vision board. Let’s see what others have created and how this tool works.
Steps
1. Vision board.
A vision board is a visualization tool used for inspiration, achieving goals and moving toward your dreams. It helps you focus on what you really want. Your subconscious internalizes your goals and dreams, turning them into reality.
We’re overcome with the amount of information coming at us. There are so many choices that you don’t move forward. A vision board helps you narrow what you really want from an infinite field of possibilities. Keep this in mind as you’re looking at vision boards others have created. Start the search in your favorite search engine.
2. Other names.
You’ll need to explore beyond the words “vision board.” Others have called them by many names including:
- Attraction board
- Dream board
- Magnet board
- Manifestation board
- Reality board
- Treasure map
- Wish-desire creative map
Though we have many names, it does the same thing. It expresses what you want so that you can focus on your dreams and goals.
3. Notes.
As you explore vision boards, you’ll want to take notes. It might be a saying you like, a type treatment that grabs your attention, a color scheme that puts you at ease, a photo that speaks to you or the cutest embellishment you can’t live without . . . though perhaps that last one is just me. You can do this digitally and include screen captures in programs like Evernote. You can do this manually with a notebook or sketchbook. Images that speak to you upon seeing a board the first time may mean nothing later. Your notes will help remind you of why you saved this.
4. Why.
The kids are sitting down with homework. The day is almost over. As you decide what to do with the last few hours of your day, your vision board draws your attention to what’s important. Instead of wasting time sitting in front of your television or computer, it reminds you of what you want to achieve. This focus helps you move forward with your plans.
As you look at vision boards, can you tell what the creator was working toward? How is it communicated through the use of images and words?
5. Goals.
Goals reflected in a vision board often center around the same themes as people tend to want the same things:
- Better career / business
- Financial freedom
- Good health and fitness
- Helping others
- Personal growth
- Spirituality
- Supportive relationships
- Travel and recreation
As you look at vision boards, can you see items that reflect these values?
6. Law of attraction.
Have you heard of the law of attraction? It’s the idea that what you think about manifests into your life.
In the simplest terms, think about the people in your life. When you’re around negative people, you look at the negative side of things. They complain, triggering your own desire to add to the conversation. As the negativity is shared, you start to physically feel it by a weight in your body, tightness in your chest and more. Your attention focuses inward. The negativity attracts more negative people to you.
The same is true when you’re around positive people. If you’re smiling and talking about the great things you plan to do, you’re happy and open to the possibilities of what’s happening around you. You jump out of bed in the morning and attack it with vigor. People who are positive will gravitate toward you.
It’s not just people however. It expands to situations and outcomes that affect your life. Find out more about the law of attraction. Do a quick search of Abraham Hicks for a great place to start.
7. The Secret.
This movie goes into the law of attraction as well. Watch it to see how others visualize and manifest what they want in their lives. This isn’t just one type of person. It works for everyone. Listen to their stories. Those stories could be yours!
Just so you know, the movie is available on Netflix. You can also grab a copy of the book if you prefer to enjoy it that way.
8. Creative process.
When creating a board, you want to use your heart, mind and imagination so that what you want becomes part of the flow toward your goals. You want to use all three when you’re looking at boards too. Focus on how each board you find makes you feel. Are there any parts you’d like to use for your own vision board?
9. Positive and personal.
Vision boards are both positive and personal. You’ll look at some and not understand what the creator was trying to achieve. The creator understood and that’s all that matters. Your vision board should speak to you. It should bring forth feelings of possibility, perception, possession and power. It’s not about thinking . . . It’s about feeling. In your notebook, track those elements that support a positive outlook for you.
