Tips, tricks and alternative ideas are presented with this badge program. Explore ways to expand your vision board creation and other options that might help you even more with your goals and dreams.
Steps
Creation
1. No rules.
There are no rules when creating a vision board. Its purpose is to give you a way to visualize and focus. If the vision board you create works for you, it is perfect. You don’t need to worry about how it looks to others because it won’t have the same meaning to them. Take a deep breath and realize you CAN do this!
2. Positive.
Many believe that the universe does not understand negative words. Saying “I want” and “I don’t want” both mean “I want.” In addition, if you are phrasing your desires with what you “don’t want”, you are also adding that negativity into your dreams. Think about how you phrase things and change the wording to make it positive. Stop and look through your vision board for negative words. How can you change them to be positive? If you can’t, remove them from your board.
3. Pinterest.
Pinterest can not only provide you with design ideas and inspiration, but tips, tutorials and links to printables as well. It’s my favorite “go to” site. That said, you can also create boards to pin materials for each of your vision boards / goals to keep organized. Look through your Pinterest boards. Is everything easy to find? How can you organize it to work better?
4. Changes.
Just like things change in your life, so will your vision board. You might achieve a goal or move closer to it. You might change your goals. Sometimes you can make adjustments to your vision board, sometimes you need to start over. Periodically review your board and see if it needs some changes.
5. Monthly boards.
You may decide that creating a huge vision board is too time-consuming. Make a smaller board with smaller goals to start. This might not be a board. You may find a planner or blank book works better for you.
Monthly boards with goals achievable within that time not only moves you forward, but supports your belief that this works for you! Fitness and self-care goals are a great way to use monthly boards. You might even want to attach a checklist to track how often you do specific tasks, such as going to the gym, that move you toward your goal.
6. Digital.
Your vision board doesn’t have to be physical. You can also create digital vision boards with a variety of graphics programs and apps. I would personally default to Adobe Illustrator or Adobe Photoshop. There are numerous programs online that you can use for a small (or sometimes no) cost as well.
A physical board might be changed to a digital one so you can take it with you. You can put it on your computer as your background image so it’s with you during the day. You might choose to take a digital photo with your phone. It doesn’t have to be a digital board, just a photo of your physical one.
Explore this possibility and try doing the same steps digitally for your vision board.
Other Options
7. Real.
If your vision board isn’t enough to move you toward your goals, create a list of tasks you can do now that will help lead you there. Changing habits and intentionally starting on the path can help you achieve your dreams faster. Look at your vision board. Brainstorm ways you can help make this process “real” and achieve results faster.
8. Resistance.
On your path, you may meet resistance. You need to recognize it and fix it. Your resistance may come from a story you tell yourself is true, bad habits, or even patterns in your behavior. Often, things we believe or do are based in things that are not true. “I’m not good enough” might actually mean “I tried something similar and failed, so I know I’ll fail again.” You might not have even created a vision board because a teacher along the way said you couldn’t do art. The only person standing between you and your dreams is you.
If you can’t overcome resistance on your own, have a conversation with someone you trust and discuss what might be holding you back.
9. Journal.
Doing a journal while working on your vision board is a great way to track your progress. Start with an entry on what your goal is and why you’re working toward it. Daily, note the things you did to move toward that goal. How do you feel moving toward your goal? Has your vision of what the end result will be changed? What resistance did you overcome to move to the next level?
Don’t stop with journals. Planners, digital notes, tracking charts and checklists can all be created to work with your board. You can use elements from your vision board and include them in your supplemental materials to tie the pieces together visually.
10. Share.
You can share your board and your journey with others. Inspire them to make similar changes to their own lives in ways they might not believe possible. Briefly outline what you might share with someone interested in creating their own vision board.
11. Teach.
Teaching others to make boards, how to manifest or even just about the law of attraction are all ways to help others move forward in their own lives. This goes beyond sharing as you’re helping them achieve results that have meaning to them. Are you interesting in teaching someone or even a group of people? If so, discuss the possibilities with others and do it!
